Welcome
We're glad you're here.
We are Corpus Callosum from Dortmund. With us, nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy work hand in hand – for people at home, in care facilities and in our practices.
Short distances, a fixed contact person and a team that listens: that is what we aim for. In this issue we show what that looks like in everyday life, and what is new with us.

Who we are
Nursing and therapy that talk to each other.
With us, nursing care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy work hand in hand – so you don't have to organise everything separately. One contact person, coordinated appointments, a team that listens.
Anyone who is ill or in need of care wants to be understood – in every language. In our team we speak twelve languages: German, English, Turkish, Kurdish, Spanish, Greek, Romanian, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Farsi.
Our name
Why we are called Corpus Callosum.
The corpus callosum is the largest connection between the two halves of the brain. Through millions of nerve fibres, it makes sure that the left and right sides do not work side by side, but think and act as one. That is exactly what we aim for in care.
Nursing care
Structure, reliability, care. What you can rely on every single day.
Therapy
Movement, perception, development. What helps people move forward again, step by step.
Corpus Callosum connects both.
With us, both sides talk to each other. That is why we chose this name.

New at Corpus Callosum
New with us: speech therapy.
Our speech therapy complements nursing care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy – everything from a single source.
Sometimes, after a stroke, a single word is missing, and suddenly the whole world is a little further away. Sometimes it is a child who goes quiet at nursery because the others don't understand them. And sometimes eating becomes an effort because swallowing no longer works properly.
For all these moments, Corpus Callosum now offers speech therapy. It works hand in hand with our nursing care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy. If you are already in our care, you can simply add speech therapy, coordinated with the people who already know you.
Practice takes place calmly, with patience and often with a laugh: speaking, voice, swallowing. Always tailored to each person's goals and pace.
Speech therapy is available with a doctor's prescription, in consultation with your GP practice.
Appointments and questions: via our main office (see contact page).
So that words come more easily again.

Speech therapy
A name
After his stroke, Mr D. could not find his words. In speech therapy he started small, with sounds, syllables and pictures. The first whole word he said clearly again was his wife's name. She stuck it on the fridge.
The first word was her name.
Speech therapy, child
Leon tells jokes
Leon is six and for a long time found it hard to make himself understood. At nursery he went quiet. In speech therapy there was playing, rhyming and laughing – and practising along the way. Today Leon tells jokes, usually the same three. His parents laugh every time anyway.
Usually the same three.

Seasonal tip
Safely through the winter
Slippery paths, early darkness, wet leaves: in winter, tripping hazards lurk right outside the front door. A few simple things make everyday life safer.
- Good shoes: sturdy shoes with non-slip soles, even for the short walk to the letterbox.
- Plenty of light: keep hallways, stairs and entrances well lit; at night a small night light helps.
- Walk calmly: small steps, hands out of your pockets – and when it is icy, it is better to postpone an appointment.
- Keep moving: strength and balance help you stay steady on your feet. It is best to discuss which exercises are right for you with your doctor or therapist.

From real life
Step by step.
When we met Mrs M. about four years ago, her flat was her whole world. And even that was too big. She could only get from her bed to the kitchen on her hands and knees. “I had stopped thinking about the outside world,” she says today.
Nursing care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy came to her together right from the start. Nursing care made sure her everyday life was safe. Physiotherapy worked on strength and balance, first sitting, then standing, then with a rollator. Occupational therapy practised with her the things you normally never practise: getting up, getting dressed, reaching the kettle.
There were good weeks and hard ones. But at some point she stood in the stairwell for the first time, with a therapist at her side. Later she walked to the corner with someone accompanying her.
And then came the morning when she phoned and simply said: “I went to the bakery. On my own.”
Today Mrs M. goes her own ways. Slowly, at her own pace. But they are her own.
Name changed; every course is individual.
“I went to the bakery. On my own.”
Page 14
From real life
A relative tells her story.
When her mother came home from hospital, Mrs K. had a folder full of papers and no plan. Care level, long-term care insurance, therapy appointments – on top of her own job and two children. “In the evenings I sat at the kitchen table and just stared at that folder,” she says.
The first call to Corpus Callosum was short. The second one wasn't. Someone took time, sorted through the papers with her and at some point asked: “And how are you actually doing?” She had to be quiet for a moment.
Today nursing care and therapy come from one provider, and the appointments are coordinated. If something changes with her mother, everyone knows – without Mrs K. having to call five people. And when she went away for a week in the summer for the first time in ages, respite care (Verhinderungspflege) took over.
“I'm a daughter again,” she says. “Not just an organiser.”
Name changed; every course is individual.

Back to life.
Occupational therapy
Coffee for the grandchildren
After her stroke, Mrs A. could no longer make coffee on Sundays. That hurt her more than her arm. In occupational therapy she practised exactly that: opening the tin, holding the spoon, lifting the pot. One Sunday in spring she was back at the coffee machine.
Grandma makes coffee on Sundays again.
Physiotherapy
Back to the garden
After a fall, Mr K. could only watch through the window as the weeds grew. Physiotherapy had one goal – his goal: back to the tomatoes. The next summer he was standing in his vegetable bed again. His therapist got the first tomato.
The first tomato was for her.
In these stories
Four small goals.
Making coffee again, back to the vegetable bed, understanding your own medication in your native language, tying a bow. From occupational therapy, physiotherapy and nursing care.
Page 17
Nursing care, languages
In his language
Mr Y. did not understand his medication; everything was too fast and in German. Then a nurse who speaks his native language came and calmly explained to him what to take when and what for. For the first time in a long while, he no longer felt like a stranger in his own life.
No longer a guest in his own life.
Occupational therapy, child
Mia ties her shoes
Mia is nine and didn't want Velcro shoes any more. But bows, pencils and scissors were hard for her. In occupational therapy every exercise became a game. One morning she proudly pointed at her feet: “Did it myself.” The bow was crooked. It didn't matter at all.

News from the world of health
Health insurance: average additional contribution stable in 2027
Good news for the start of the year: according to the experts' forecast (the GKV Schätzerkreis, the statutory health insurance estimation group), the average additional contribution (Zusatzbeitrag) in 2027 will remain at 2.9 percent. However, this is only a guideline – each health insurance fund sets the contribution for its own members. If your fund raises the contribution, it must inform you, and you have a special right to cancel your membership.

Vaccination protection for older people
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends an annual flu vaccination for everyone aged 60 and over – with a special vaccine for older people (high-dose or adjuvanted vaccine). From the age of 75, a one-off vaccination against RSV is also recommended; for people with severe underlying conditions or living in care facilities, from the age of 60. Whether a vaccination still makes sense now is best discussed with your GP practice.

Our team
This is why we do it.
It is rarely the big moments. It is the morning when someone walks to the door on their own again for the first time. The afternoon when a hand holds the coffee cup again. The smile when a word comes back that had been missing for a long time.
Our nurses and therapists experience moments like these every day, and they pass them on: during breaks, in the corridor, when handing over the round. Because nursing care and therapy work hand in hand with us, in the end it is not just one person who is happy, but the whole team.
That is why we get up early. That is why we drive through snow and rain. And that is why we are glad to come back the next day.
In the end, the whole team is happy.

For care homes, hospitals and nursing services
When the shift is wobbling.
Staff leasing from Corpus Callosum – nursing and housekeeping, from care assistant to nursing service manager (PDL).
Sunday evening, a sick note, and Monday's duty roster has a gap. Every care home and ward manager knows this feeling.
That is what our staff leasing is for. In our pool you will find people for every task in nursing and housekeeping: care assistants with and without formal training, housekeeping staff, registered nurses, right up to nursing service managers with specialist training in intensive care.
And for outpatient nursing services: if your trainees need a practical training supervisor, you will find one with us, too.
We know nursing from the inside, because we do it ourselves every day. That is why we know what matters on your ward or in your residential unit, and we send you people who roll up their sleeves.
So that your duty roster works out again.
